Today’s fact: About 1 in every 691 babies born in the US has Down syndrome.

You know me and my cakes. I’m headed to a “Ghoul’s Night Out” this evening (isn’t that cute?) so I thought I’d make an appropriately ghoulish cake.

Ta da! It’s Frankenstein’s monster!

Chocolate cake with raspberry filling, frosted with buttercream (the green) and chocolate buttercream (the hair.) I know you want some. I’ll think of you while I’m eating my slice.

  1. Three comments:

    1) How are the odds for having a baby with Down Syndrome so much lower when that many are being born?

    2) How do you have time to take care of a baby, a toddler and a kid AND make fancy cakes?

    3) I forgot to mention that my mom said you’re welcome to stay at their place when you visit Denver in December as long as you make a fancy cake. Also she wants you to send one to me now.

    • 1) You have to factor in the higher odds for older women. At age 30 the odds are 1 in 1000, but at age 35 it’s 1 in 400 and it goes up from there. Also, some places I’ve read that the birth rate is 1 in 800 or even 1 in 1000, so even that is not a set in stone number.

      2) It takes me two days. And help from Brian.

      3) I’m not sure a cake would mail very well.
